I want to make a rickroll bot for my server. I already have code to rickroll but I want to limit it to a channel so it doesn't spam. I already have the ID of the channel. I have this so far:
import discord
from discord.ext import commands
client = commands.Bot(command_prefix="!")
@client.event
async def on_ready():
print("The bot is online")
@client.command()
async def rickroll(ctx):
await ctx.channel.purge(limit=1)
await ctx.send('''Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you''')
@client.command()
async def rickdott(ctx):
await ctx.channel.purge(limit=1)
await ctx.send('''⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This answer's a slight an improvement from the comments (Add if ctx.channel.id == 123:
within the commands).
If you want your entire bot to be limited to a single channel, check within the on_message
handler. Otherwise, the simplest solution would be create a discord.py "check" for commands.
Option 1 (entire bot):
async def on_message(message):
if message.channel.id != 738343649850412345:
# handle if it's in the wrong channel here, or don't
return
await client.process_commands(message)
client.on_message = on_message
Note that this isn't registered as an event, instead it overrides the method (It's probably cleaner if you subclass Bot
instead).
Option 2 (specific commands):
def my_channel_only():
def predicate(ctx):
if ctx.channel != 738343649850412345:
# Do the handling here or in on_command_error handler
raise commands.CheckFailure("Channel isn't valid!")
return True
return commands.check(predicate)
@my_channel_only()
@client.command()
async def rickroll(ctx):
await ctx.send('''Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you''')
Choose whichever option best fit your use case.
