So, I can use the trace to get list shortened to what I want by entering into entry box. But when I click on shortened list I get the value of the position in previous list, not the new shorten list value. Works okay without using entry box, to shorten list. This was my attempt at a autocomplete listbox type.

CodePudding user response:

You use the wrong source for showing the selected item. As the shortened list is not the same as adfl, you should not use adfl inside sauthor_list(). You need to get the selected item using frame1_lb.get() instead:

def sauthor_list(self):
    caut = frame1_lb.curselection()
    print(caut)
    saut = frame1_lb.get(caut[0]) # get the selected item
    print(saut)
