XP search function is advanced options, there's a name search tape backup, excuse me this feature is what mean?

This is easy to understand, if the previous backup the data, through the tape machine backup to tape, late in the search when can search the contents of the previous backup on tape at the same time, no check, not search tape backup before, check the tape machine must be on-line operation to achieve the search function,

Simple said is the Windows default search is hard disk, this does not include the tape machine external storage devices,
