Issues & Solutions

  1. svg's path is an outline only
  2. apply fill to the path instead of svg

.heart {
  width: 50%;
  margin-left: 25%;
  cursor: pointer;
}

.heart:active path {
  fill: red;
  overflow: hidden;
}
<svg class="heart" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" version="1.1" id="Capa_1" x="0px" y="0px" viewBox="0 0 471.701 471.701" style="enable-background:new 0 0 471.701 471.701;" xml:space="preserve">

In order to change the color of the SVG you can use filters, here's a link that helped me a lot in changing the inside color of an SVG. Here's the link In this, you just add the HEX of the color you need and copy the code it generates below. The thing to notice is that the SVG must have black color initially, thus for that you just have to add: brightness(0) saturate(100%)before the rest of the filters, only if it is not initially completely black.

I have only used this on the SVG I bring in as images, so you can test it if it works in your case.
